ARDUINO 1.8.5 WINDOWS 7 INSTALL
As I am installed on a desktop PC with Windows 7, I downloaded Windows Install for Windows XP and up to the file name: arduino-1.8.5-windows.exe. license agreements that the user must comply with. to prevent the user from using paid services and services or from breaking the law. If Arduino believes, at its sole discretion, that the user has introduced conduct that raises technical problems or legal responsibilities or is contrary to the provisions of the agreement, Arduino may, among other things, restrict, suspend or interrupt the availability of services, services and paid accounts, revoke access to the application and take technical and legal measures, including the removal of illegal content. Or check the search icon and write “arduino.” If you`ve found the arduino icon, run the app. It seems the Arduino IDE can't see the port but avrdude and Windows can.Once the installation is complete, an Arduino icon will appear on the desktop. May be related: I am seeing the Tools->Ports menu lag behind Windows Device Manager by 20 to 30 seconds.
ARDUINO 1.8.5 WINDOWS 7 PRO
If I replicate the avrdude command at CLI it works flawlessly (once I force the Pro Micro into bootloader mode by double-tapping the reset). After 30 seconds avrdude then tries to run and since COM 7 no longer exists, it fails. The bootloader COM port (7 in this example) is closed. After 8 seconds the Pro Micro exits the bootloader and starts running code.
Programming freezes at this point for ~30 seconds. Turning on verbose, the port is correctly found, but Arduino just hangs at the port.
We are currently dumbfounded, but are starting to hear from customers.
ARDUINO 1.8.5 WINDOWS 7 UPDATE
We can't tell if it's a windows update (not likely since Linux and Mac are reporting similar issue), Java update (we've reverted all the way back to 7 without fix), or something with Arduino (we've tried back to v1.6.x). This may or may not be related but in the last ~20 hours we've seen micro support break in Windows and Mac (reported but not confirmed).
